Training and Teaching experience
Robert James is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Piano/Flute) and the Northern Territory University (Singing) and completed post-graduate studies in Conducting and Composition at the NSW Conservatorium of Music. He also holds L.T.C.L. / L.Mus.A. and L.A.G.M. in Singing and A.T.C.L. in Speech and Drama.
Robert studied Acting in Sydney with Hayes Gordon at the Ensemble Theatre and also with Brian Syron (for whose academy he was also a speech lecturer).
Robert has been teaching music and voice production for thirty five years. He has acted as adjudicator at Eistedffods and Talent Quests in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory and served for a short term as an examiner on the Board of the Australian Guild of Music and Speech.
Robert's students have consistently performed well in Talent Quests, Examinations and Eisteddfods. Some have gone on to win entry to the Opera School at The Sydney Conservatorium, while others have been successful in Professional Theatre, Clubs and as Recording Artists. One of his students has won an Aria Award. Several of his students are now teaching speech or singing professionally.

Performance Experience
As a singer, Robert James has given solo recitals and/or sung in operas, cantatas and oratrios (as tenor soloist) in Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Bathurst, Orange, Gosford and Darwin, and overseas in Jakarta, Bali and Kupang.
Robert has performed recitals on ABC Radio, and he sang in "A People to Belong To" on Channel 10.
As an actor
Robert has appeared in principal roles in over sixty productions, most recently as Tevye in the "Superstar" production of "Fiddler on the Roof", the title role of "King Lear" by Shakespeare and as Polonius in "Hamlet".
He has worked in most genres from twentieth Century Comedy, Farce and Musicals, to Greek and Shakespearean Tragedies, and has included Ibsen, Chekhov, Wilde and even nineteenth Century Melodrama in his repertoire.
Robert has also directed over twenty theatrical productions in wide range of genres, and including "The Taming of the Shrew" "Romeo and Juliet" "The Merchant of Venice" (all by Shakespeare), "The Importance of Being Earnest" (Oscar Wilde), "Charley's Aunt", "The Conquest of Bali", "A Phoenix Too Frequent", and musicals including "Bye Bye Birdie", " Mame", "Salad Days", "Godspell", and several written by himself. |

Christian Testimony
I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal saviour on the 9th of December 1979 at the age of thirty three. I had been brought up to think of myself as an Agnostic (translate: confused Atheist). After years of indulging in alcohol, drugs, false religions and immorality, I was confronted by a miracle working God and accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Over the next 18 months God worked great miracles of physical, emotional and spiritual healings in my life and I was "filled with" or recieved the "Baptism of" the Holy Spirit. While my original conversion had been a life changing experience, this new "Charismatic" experience was life empowering, and since that time God has worked many wonderful miracles in and through my life.
